The Green Desk

Processed from #7 Multi Film Flexible Plastic

"Solving7 have partnered with some of Africa's most progressive companies to help convert #7 Plastic into resilient, reliable Green Desks." - Sophia Ladha

We have established critical partnerships with industry leaders such as Phambili Services, a specialist polymer recycling company and the Wild Trust – specialists at each step of the value chain – to upcycle Number 7 Plastic Flexible Film into a Green Desk that serves 2 to 3 children in Africa.

More about the Green Desk

The Green Desk Project has been prototyped in South Africa via The Wild Trust and participating schools in Kwa-Zulu Natal and The Western Cape. Proof of concept has been established and proven, from concept to end-user application.

60KGs #7 Plastic Upcycled

Each Green Desk is made from 60kgs of #7 plastic film waste and is comprised of a desk surface for 2 students with an attached bench.

600,000Kgs Waste Upcycled

For every 10,000 desks made, 600,000 kgs of waste will be prevented from entering landfills, being incinerated or ending up in the rivers and oceans.

Impact on Litter

This translates into 120 million pieces of litter/waste per 10,000 desks

The Benefit of the Green Desk

The Green Desk solves 3 problems. Pollution. Poor Infrastructure. Unemployment in Africa. By creating a circular economy, Solving7 provide creative and sustainable solutions to all 3 sectors.

Over the course of a few decades, the ubiquitous use of plastic has had an unprecedented impact on our environment and ecosystems.

Our oceans are drowning in plastic and the consequences for our wild life, oceans and ecosystems demand creative and compelling solutions.

Solving7 is an NGO that solves some of the 21st Century’s most compelling problems with recycling and upcycling solutions that create and nurture value chains throughout the entire Waste economy.

Our first project has been to upcycle #7 Plastic into tough, durable Green Desks that serve underprivileged and under-resourced communities in both South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Proof of concept has been delivered to a number of schools in South Africa via the Wild Trust and our next batch of desks are shipping soon.
